Somewhere under the Rainbow...and below the bright blue surface waters at Koloa Landing here on Kauai...you will find green sea turtles, dolphins, and whales.. OH MY!!

Brian Fleener, 11, of Kalaheo, Hawaii clicked his fins three times and found that there's no place like home...except in the Pacific Ocean!  On a diving excursion with a KDU instructor he saw a green sea turtle, a snowflake moray eel, several trumpet fish, needle-fish and goat-fish.  He was also entranced by the magical colors of the parrot-fish! The most exciting event was hearing the songs of the whales.  Brian discovered an even more colorful place than OZ, the amazing OCEAN!

Aloha and Happy New Year from the staff of Kauai Down Under Dive Team!  As many of our friends and family on the mainland are "walking in a winter wonderland", the staff and customers at KDU are "Diving in a winter wonderland"

First time divers James and Jessica from New Jersey were amazed today at our Dive site, Koloa Landing, where they saw "so many Hawaiian Sea Turtles that I lost count, it was amazing"!

Tis the season to be diving...that's for sure!!  The humpback whales are out in full force.  They visit our waters from November through March.  While you might spot one on top of the ocean lets just say it is even more amazing to be on a guided dive tour with us and hear them singing to you!  According to MSDT, Mike Fleener, "There is not a more peaceful feeling than hearing "the song of the whales" while diving in their own natural habitat.

The staff here at KDU would love nothing more than to experience this with you!!

Happy Diving Day to all of our Kauai Down Under fans. Wanted to share some underwater updates from down under. The Kauai Down Under Dive Team has been having a blast this summer with great conditions island wide. Last week one of our most entertaining dive instructors Matt May and his diver Mike from Michigan had the dive of a lifetime at Koloa Landing. In just one dive they were treated to a five foot white tip reef shark and a Galapagos sighting as well. During this same tour two eagle rays came out of nowhere with a four foot span and along the way they found a frogfish the size of a softball. Now that's what I call entertainment. Matt said, "It was one of the best dives I've ever been on." As for Mike from Michigan he had so much fun he's still out there. (Just kidding but I'm sure he wishes he was!) One of the best things about diving is that you never know what you’re going to find. And one of the best things about diving with the Kauai Down Under Dive Team is that we love what we do and it shows! If it's out there were going to find it for you. The Kauai Down Under Dive Team strongly believe that you should do what you love and love what you do! Our divers are definitely feeling the love. Have a great day and find a way to add water!

Aloha to all of our favorite dive buddies and new fans of Kauai Down Under Dive Team! We have been having an amazing month with dives taking place all over Kauai. Our team has been working hard and having a lot of fun in the process. Koloa Landing has been having some amazing conditions with visibility in the 100ft range. With daily turtle sightings, frog fish, and eagle ray encounters it is no wonder this is one the top dive sites in the entire state of Hawaii. On the North shore of Kauai our 2 Tank Tunnels Experience has been wowing even the most seasoned divers who visit our island. These special dives are personally some of my favorite locations to hop in the water and look for some white tip reef sharks... (Don't worry ladies they are known as man eaters!) Joking aside we have some wonderful new additions to the Kauai Down Under Ohana. We give a big Kauai welcome to Ben, Richard and Lavonne! As our dive family grows our commitment to our divers remains the same. Our passion for the sport, respect for the ocean and commitment to safety are just a few of the reasons you should be diving with us! We look forward to blowing some bubbles with you!

Mahalo Nui Loa,

Josh Helmin

Aloha from  the Kauai Down Under Dive Team! Well summer has officially started on the island with warmer weather and wonderful water. Our team had some amazing dives at our home base Koloa Landing and up north at Tunnels reef. The Kauai Down Under Team conducted some special ops training at the famous Tunnels dive site and saw 5 white tip reef sharks on the first dive of the season! We can only dive tunnels 3-4 months of the year so if you are coming to Kauai during the summer months make sure you book a dive with us at this amazing location. Damion, one of newest members to the Kauai Down Under Dive Team reported seeing the biggest gold lace nudi branch he has ever seen at Tunnels in 12 years of diving that spot! Down at Koloa Landing our scooter divers were a huge hit with our certified divers. One dive instructor reported making it to Sheraton Caverns from Koloa Landing in 12-15 minutes! His diver enjoyed a 50 minute dive at this popular boat dive site and was treated to large schools of taap'e, some white mouth eels and 5 turtles swimming around our diver at once. Another wonderful week in paradise........

Recently, there have been several Frog Fish hanging out at Koloa Landing. We've seen red ones, tan ones and white ones, all blending beautifully with the reef. We have also had lots of leaf fish around. We are still hearing the whales sing, and their sounds are amazing.

I've seen Harlequin Shrimp at Koloa Landing lately. These little crustaceans are also known as a Clown, Painted, or Dancing Shrimp. I also had the opportunity to watch a pod of our Hawaiian Spinner Dolphin jumping at the divesite 2 mornings in a row.

A large Mustache Conger Eel (known locally as a White Eel), has been living in a specific spot at Koloa Landing for nearly 3 years. Very recently, this eel had babies, and over the course of a couple days, numerous small eels started poking their heads out of the same hole that the large eel has occupied for some time.

“I took a group of divers to Sheraton Caverns today on a scooter dive. We saw a Hawiian Monk Seal taking shelter in one of the caverns. The Hawaiian Monk Seal is the 2nd most endangered mammal in the entire world. It was incredible to see her up close and personal. She simply watched us as we slowly moved away. It was awesome!”
