Josh Helmin

Josh has been a dive shop owner and operator on Kauai since 2003. His passion for diving and his dedication to his business have made Kauai Down Under a premier scuba company on the island. Josh earned his bachelors’ degree in Architecture, but his education in diving is what drove him. Realizing that the cold Midwest was not the place he wanted to dive, Josh relocated to Kauai for the warm water and tropical climate. He has successfully built his business through his many years of devotion to safe diving practices and to his customers’ complete satisfaction.  Josh is originally from Minnesota.

Mike Fleener
Director of Operations, MSDT

Mike is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the retail and diving components of the company. He is also a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer and loves to blow bubbles with his underwater camera in hand whenever he can.  His free time is spent with his family and he especially loves playing with his son.  He is originally from Whiteland, Indiana.

Richard
PADI IDC Staff Instructor

Richard moved to Kauai after living and teaching diving in Destin, Florida.  Although he enjoyed the gulf waters, the tragic events of the oil spill last year created unfavorable diving conditions.  Unfortunate indeed, but KDU is pleased to have Richard as part of the team!  Richard is an IDC Staff Instructor and he previously served our country in the U.S. Army Special Operations.  He loves diving, teaching diving, talking story, and spending time with his family!

Grant

Grant is a Kauai native who grew up in Ele’ele. He loves body boarding and spends many hours in the ocean. He also likes to free dive and spend time lifting weights.

Brittany

Brittany is originally from San Antonio, Texas.  She came to Kauai seeking ADVENTURE and has obtained her Hawaiian Real-estate license along the way!  Brittany attempted selling time-shares, but has decided her career is better suited in the diving industry!  One dive and Brit was hooked!  She loves diving and taking photos both above and below sea level.  She also enjoys sewing, arts & crafts and spending time with friends!     

Elizabeth

Elizabeth is an enthusiastic, energetic soul!  She’s fun-loving, full of life, and a mother of four!  Elizabeth has a love for the ocean, both above and below the surface.  She likes to surf and previously taught diving professionally as an Instructor!  She enjoys working in the shop and sharing her passions & experiences with others!
